In addition to its food distribution activities that serve 31 Colorado counties, Care and Share works to combat hunger through education programs such as Cooking Matters. A component of Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign, Cooking Matters provides families with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to prepare healthy and affordable meals at home.
Through the six-week program, participants learn about nutrition, food budgeting, and healthy cooking. After each weekly two-hour lesson, participants return home with new knowledge, recipes, and a bag of groceries to help them put what they have learned into practice.
Since Cooking Matters was launched in Colorado in 1994, more than 12,000 families at risk of hunger have benefited from the program. With the help of Care and Share, Cooking Matters Colorado recently expanded its reach to include El Paso, Pueblo, and Fremont Counties.
